The large Baltic Sea Navy of the Russian Federation has its administrative headquarter in the city of Kaliningrad. The ships have home port in the ice free harbour of Baltijsk/Балтийск, which is located by the Baltic Sea Coast just west of Kaliningrad.

The beautiful office building of the navy was built as the main post office in German Königsberg. In front of the building there is a monument to honor Russian tsar Peter the Great, Памятник Петру I. It was put up year 2003 in the 300 year jubilee of tsar Peters founding of imperial capital of St Petersburg.
